TRIUMPH AND TRAGEDY OF 19-05-12 – Paperback
DESCRIPTION
ââŹĹWe were either going to be one of the most renowned teams in HeartsââŹâ˘ history or the worst team in HeartsââŹâ˘ history. It was all or nothing for us, and thatââŹâ˘s where the pressure came from. We couldnââŹâ˘t lose that game.ââŹÂ Jamie MacDonald
On 19th May 2012, Heart of Midlothian – with two Scottish Cups in the previous 14 years – and Hibernian – who hadnââŹâ˘t won ââŹĹthe big cupââŹÂ for 110 years – collided in the first all-Edinburgh Scottish Cup final for 116 years.
Triumph and Tragedy of 19-05-12 looks back on how Hearts – drifting towards financial implosion under madcap owner Vladimir Romanov – overcame a whole host of distractions to dish out a comprehensive beating of their oldest foes when it mattered most.
The story has taken on extra poignancy in light of the tragic passing of much-loved cup-winning captain Marius Zaliukas in 2020, aged just 36.
In the lead-up to the tenth anniversary, Edinburgh football journalist Anthony Brown joins Paulo Sergio, the teamââŹâ˘s popular Portuguese manager, and his revered players to explore all the key strands associated with one of the most significant events in HeartsââŹâ˘ proud history.
Features a foreword from HeartsââŹâ˘ Scottish Cup-winning defender Andy Webster as well as a stunning picture special.
